Our Meetings

The Capital Area Parkinson's Society meets one Saturday a month at the Riverbend Baptist Church, located at 4124 N. Capital of Texas Highway (360), Austin, 78746. We meet in The Quads / Community Groups Center, which is on the west side of the campus (off Cedar Street). There is plenty of free parking available. (Click here for a map.)

CAPS meetings start at 2:00 p.m. with a brief information session. Members then have a chance to share significant happenings in their lives and/or something about Parkinson's Disease that they believe would be of interest to the group.

Following this, we frequently have a speaker whose topic relates to health or living concerns of Parkinsonians and their caregivers. You can expect a lively question and answer session following the speaker's presentation.

Following the speaker, Parkinsonians have a choice of an exercise program led by Tammy Steele, a physical therapist specializing in exercise and movement; music therapy provided by Cathy Rivera of the Center for Music Therapy; or a smaller group meeting with other Parkinsonians. Caregivers meet in their own support group, allowing them to freely share their thoughts on living with and assisting a Parkinsonian. Free refreshments follow and more discussion is encouraged. Meetings conclude at 4:00 p.m., making this a jam-packed two hours of information, fun, exercise and sharing.
