Here are a few of the many websites available that provide information of interest to Parkinsonians, families, friends, carepartners and healthcare providers. To make it easier for you, we divided the list into Austin/Central Texas resources, other PD Support Groups and national organizations.

Austin Area Resources

Bastrop, TX Support Group The Bastrop Parkinson's Disease Support Group meets on the 4th Thursday of each month, from 2:00 - 3:00 PM. Location: Argent Court, 508 Old Austin Hwy, Bastrop (map). For more information, please email Jenny Bankston or contact her at 512-252-1512.
Burnet, TX Support Group The Burnet PD Support Group meets the 2nd Wednesday of each month, from 2:00 - 3:00 PM. Cedar Park, TX Support Group The Cedar Park PD Support Group meets the first Friday of each month from 1:00 - 2:00 PM. Location: The Ranch at Cedar Park, 1301 W. Austin, TX Carepartners Support Group

The Austin Caregivers' Support Group meets quarterly at the Riverbend Baptist Church, located on Capital of Texas Highway (Loop 360) (map). Meetings are Saturday at 2:00 PM. Upcoming dates are July 28 and October 27. Maxine Jenks facilitates.

Austin Area Young Onset Group The greater Austin-area Young Onset Parkinson's Group meets regularly at various (fun) locations in the greater Austin area. Please please email A.J. Hernandez for the latest dates, times, venues and events.

Austin Area Singles with Parkinsons Support Group
This support group addresses the needs of Parkinsonians living alone. The Singles with Parkinson's Support Group meets monthly at various locations. For additional information, please email or call Lydia Blanchard at 512-445-2478. Please note -- volunteers are needed to drive participants to and/or from the meetings.
Parsons House Austin The Parsons Family and Janelle Parsons generously support the Capital Area Parkinson's Society. They provide office space and a site for Board meetings. Parkinsonians are welcomed as residents of this retirement and assisted-living community.
MusicMind Music Therapy MusicMind provides music therapy services to individuals in their homes, residential facilities or outpatient clinics. MusicMind is focused primarily on the needs of persons recovering from brain injury, stroke, or living with neurological conditions such as Parkinson's Disease, Alzheimer's, or multiple sclerosis.
Family Eldercare Family Eldercare provides essential services for elders, adults with disabilities and those who care for them. Founded in 1982, this non-profit organization serves Austin and the surrounding community.
The Freddy Powers Parkinson's Organization The Freddy Powers Parkinson's Organization was founded in April 2006 to honor award winning singer/songwriter/producer Freddy Powers, who suffers from Parkinson's Disease. The Foundation benefits Central Texans with Parkinson's Disease and their carepartners.
Neurology Solutions Consultants NSC is a movement disorders neurology clinic located in Austin. Dr. Rob Izor is board certified and fellowship trained in movement disorders, Parkinson's Disease, tremors, spasticity and dystonia. NSC provides innovative and comprehensive care for patients and their families, and consultation to Austin area neurologists.
Taste & Smell Disorders Clinic Over two million Americans have problems with smell or taste and over 250,000 visit a physician each year for this problem. Those with Parkinson's Disease are particularly vulnerable. Dr. Ronald Devere, Director of the Taste & Smell Disorders Clinic is a board certified neurologist, fellow of the American Academy of Neurology and the American Academy of Disability Evaluating Physicians.
Alzheimer's Disease & Memory Disorders Center In conjunction with his work in taste and smell disorders, Dr. Ronald Devere also has been treating patients with Alzheimer's Disease and other memory disorders. The AD-MD Center is located in Lakeway, TX.
Plummer Movement Disorders Center Plummer Movement Disorders Center, at Scott & White Hospital, Temple, TX, is a National Parkinson Foundation designated Care Center, with an interdisciplinary team that focuses on care for people with Parkinson's and their care-partners, and on outreach and education to communities throughout central Texas. Austin Groups for the Elderly Austin Groups for the Elderly is a non-profit organization empowering carepartners, the elderly and their families through education, advocacy, resources and support. Programs include Elderhaven Adult Day Care Center, Caregiver Resource Center, SeniorNet Computer Learning Institute, and Historic AGE Building Houses Non-profits.
Ride Guide The Community Action Network publishes the Ride Guide: Senior Transportation Options in the Greater Austin Area. The information is available in chart form. You can also download the Ride Guide in PDF form. ( 266 KB, requires free Adobe Reader.)
Area Agency on Aging of The Capital Area The Area Agency on Aging of the Capital Area (AAACA), is a non-profit agency whose mission is to promote independence for people sixty years or older and their carepartners. The AAACA is based in Austin, Texas and serves counties of Bastrop, Blanco, Burnet, Caldwell, Fayette, Hays, Lee, Llano, Travis and Williamson.

National/Regional Parkinson's Disease Resources
The Alliance for Medical Research The Alliance for Medical Research provides a non-biased, non-partisan education program and materials about the science of various medical research topics, including but not limited to Regenerative Medicine. View their new video explaining the benefits of stem cell research.

Young Onset Parkinson's Association

YOPA serves all young-onset Parkinson's patients, particularly the recently diagnosed, by actively searching for them and providing them with empathy, information, an affiliation with others like themselves, a connection with the young onset community, and a larger voice in advocacy.

Parkinson's Disease Foundation The Parkinson’s Disease Foundation (PDF) is a national non-profit organization devoted to funding research, providing education and advocating for Parkinson’s. PDF sponsors many trials. Information on those trials can be found at www.pdtrials.org.
NeedyMeds NeedyMeds is a 501(3)(c) non-profit, which helps people who cannot afford medicine or healthcare costs find sources for those medications. The information at NeedyMeds is available anonymously and free of charge. Click here to download their brochure. (206KB PDF)
American Parkinson Disease Association The American Parkinson Disease Association, Inc. was founded in 1961 to ease the burden and find a cure for Parkinson's disease. Headquartered in New York, the organization focuses its energies on research, patient services, education and raising public awareness of the disease.
National Parkinson Foundation The National Parkinson Foundation is the largest organization serving persons affected by Parkinson disease throughout the world.  The Foundation supports research for a cure and programs dedicated to improving care and quality of life.  NPF provides information, support, and education for persons with Parkinson, their families, and health care professionals.
Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center The Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center (MAPC) is a National Parkinson Foundation Center of Excellence. MAPC also operates a national Parkinson's Disease Registry, intended to facilitate the development of new therapies and healthcare services.
Parkinson Alliance The Princeton, NJ-based Parkinson Alliance is a national non-profit organization dedicated to raising funds to help finance the most promising research to find the cause and cure for Parkinson's disease.
Parkinson's Action Network Founded in 1991, PAN is the unified education and advocacy voice of the Parkinson’s community—more than one million Americans and their families. PAN increases awareness about Parkinson’s disease and seeks federal support for Parkinson’s research.
The Parkinson's Institute The Parkinson's Institute is the only organization that combines the resources of a full basic research laboratory with access to a wet lab, stereology facility and tissue bank; a cadre of 30 clinical researchers and epidemiologists; and a patient care clinic with a database of thousands of Parkinson's disease patients.
Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research is dedicated to ensuring the development of a cure for Parkinson's disease within this lifetime through an aggressively funded research agenda.
Hope for a Cure Foundation

Hope For A Cure Foundation for Parkinson's Research was established to increase awareness and raise funds for Parkinson’s disease. Money raised supports research and funds efforts to improve quality of life for Parkinson’s sufferers. Hope For A Cure Foundation also provides informational booklets and pamphlets

Northwest Parkinson's Foundation The Northwest Parkinson’s Foundation is a nonprofit organization established to improve quality of life for the Northwest Parkinson's disease community in the Pacific Northwest. In addition to producing educational resources, providing support to patients and carepartners, and advocating on behalf of Parkinson's families in the region, they are a partner in the Kirkland, Washington-based Booth Gardner Parkinson’s Care Center, a regional center of excellence in the treatment of Parkinson's disease.
We Move WE MOVE is a comprehensive Internet resource for movement disorder information and education. Established in 1991, the organization has been educating and informing patients, professionals, and the public about the latest clinical advances, management, and treatment options for neurologic movement disorders.
PDtrials.org PDtrials.org lists Parkinson’s disease clinical trials sponsored by the National Institutes of Health and other federal agencies, as well as by private industry and institutions currently taking place in locations across the United States. All of the clinical trials described on this site have received approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Institutional Review Board where the study is being conducted.
