May 11th – Treatment Options for PD

CAPS members will be treated to a very special presentation at our May membership meeting.  The program will be a panel presentation by 3 members of the clinical team at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Austin.  They will present an overview of the current treatment options for Parkinson’s, including the medications and therapy approaches proven to slow the progression of the symptoms.  The panel will include:

Steven Tynes, M.D.

Dr. Tynes is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.  He graduated from Blinn College, Texas A&M University, and Universidad de Monterrey (Mexico), and completed a physical medicine and rehabilitation residency at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, as well as a fellowship in rehabilitation medicine at the Baylor Institute for Rehabilitation.

Peter Berlin, Director of Pharmacy

Peter has extensive experience as a clinical and administrative pharmacist. Peter graduated with a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan, and has a master’s degree in healthcare pharmacy administration from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan.

Liz Warfield, Speech Therapist

Liz graduated with a master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology at the University of Texas – Austin. Since 2011, Liz has been working as a Senior Speech Therapist at HealthSouth Rehab Hospital of Austin. She works with a diverse mix of patients, including those with Parkinson’s, to help them improve their language, swallowing, and cognitive skills.
